Hex Nut Friendship Bracelet Tutorial

I was making one for a friend so I thought I would post a tutorial on the process and hopefully inspire you to make one! It takes minutes. You can go crazy with different colored twine and nuts of different material and sizes, but this is a basic tutorial for a man’s hex nut bracelet. Girls, get the smallest nuts and twine possible for the best look. Guys can go a little chunkier.
First, you will need to buy 18 hex nuts and a coil of cotton twine. I got my supplies at the Home Depot. But I know there is an even finer twine at K-Mart that is brown and more delicate. I used brass hex nuts, which are more expensive. Probably not a necessity.
Cut twine into three strands at one yard each.
Next, leaving yourself a few inches of slack, make a knot near the top of the twine strands.
Wrap the loose ends with tape for more easy threading through the hex nut.
Secure the top of the bracelet under a heavy object. Begin a tight braid that continues for an inch or so. To braid, bring the rightmost string over the middle string. Now the right string is in the middle. Next bring the leftmost string over the middle string. Now the left string is the middle string. Continue on. Outside over middle, outside over middle.
Now thread one hex nut onto an outside strand of the braid, the one you are ready to pass over the middle string. Braid the strand across the middle and pass another hex nut onto the opposite side.
Do it again, sliding one hex nut up the opposite string. Always threading onto the outside strands then crossing them over the middle.
Keep it tight. At first it looks messy, but just continue introducing hex nuts each time you braid a strand across the center, until you have used them all. For a nice option, you could use smaller hex nuts for the last six. This gives it a feminine tapered look. You can also reduce the number of nuts used for a less bulky look.
Finish it off with another inch of braid, and tie a knot. There should be enough twine left over to wrap the bracelet around your wrist twice. Your friend can choose to clip the ends but it is nice to have the option of wearing it long.
